First Division Player of the week – Gary O’Neill (UCD)

UCD’s Gary O’Neill has been name as our First Division ‘Player of the week’ after an inspiring display as the students outclassed Owen Harry’s Shelbourne side 4-0 in Belfield on Friday.

O’Neill 22, was on fire against Shels. His early goal set the tone for UCD, as they went on to totally dominate Shelbourne in the opening half. He scored two goals, one a penalty and his work-rate over 90 minutes was top-class.

It was O’Neill’s first game of the season, as he didn’t feature in UCD’s opening win over Cabinteely due to his involvement in their Collingwood Cup games.

At just 22 O’Neill is one of the elder statesmen in the UCD squad. However, he’s into his third season with the students and is well experienced at this level.

UCD will now look forward to Friday’s clash with Waterford, in what should be a very intriguing game.
