Premier Division Player of the week – Patrick McEleney (Dundalk)

Dundalk midfielder Patrick McEleney is our League of Ireland Premier Division ‘Player of the week’ after a commanding performance in the champions 4-0 win over Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds on Saturday evening.

McEleney 24, was man of the match on opening day as Dundalk beat Shamrock Rovers at Oriel Park, and continued that rich vein of form against Sligo.

He scored a wonderful free-kick just twelve minutes into the game, past Sligo keeper Shaun Patton and into the corner of the net.

He set up both Ciaran Kilduff and Robbie Benson with chances, and also had a couple of other efforts saved by Patton.

Before the start of the season Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny said that he wanted to see more from McEleney this season, and so far the Derry native has delivered.

He is a worthy winner of our ‘Player of the week’.
