Cork City head to United park on Friday night to take on Pete Mahon’s Drogheda side who have surprised many with their winning start to the season. It’s a big weekend in the Premier Division as all clubs have two games in three days, with Cork hosting Dave Robertson’s strugglers Sligo Rovers on Monday.
Speaking to the assembled media John Caulfield was full of praise for Pete Mahon saying, “There’s gonna be some surprise teams at the bottom and I think Pete Mahon has been in our league for what, over 25 years! He’s an absolute fantastic manager, a real hard work ethic. John Gill is the same, two real guys who put massive work in, work hard and the team they built in drogheda is a typical team for them.”
Ex Sligo Rovers midfielder Jimmy Keohane was asked about his start to the season,”Obviously going away to Finn Harps was always going to be a battle. Against Galway, obviously getting the first goal, and then the second goal then killing them off. But yeah, I’m happy with the way it’s going.” Keohane has started all three of City’s games this season, including the President’s Cup, and is relishing facing his old club on Monday.
Ahead of those games Caulfield says that star striker Seanie Maguire, along with Johnny Dunleavey need to be assessed due to niggling injuries. Garry Buckley is due back from suspension, while John Kavanagh is back training but won’t be in contention.
