Derry City inflicted the first defeat of the season to 3-in-a-row champions Dundalk on Monday night with a 3-1 win at their temporary home in Maginn Park.
Derry City Assistant Manager Hugh Harkin told us afterwards, “Monday nights game was a great result for both the club and the fans.”
“Playing the champions in our first full competitive home game added to the occasion. The result was the icing on the cake.”
“We had a game plan and the players showed great character after going behind early on.”
“Dundalk are a quality side and are strong all over the pitch and while they had most of the possession in the early periods we gradually imposed are game on them and got back level before halftime.”
“We changed a few things round at halftime and with the crowd behind us eventually we took the lead and added a third late on to secure the victory and which hopefully sent the fans home happy who were amazing throughout the game.”
