Cork City striker Karl Sheppard is our SSE Airtricity League Premier Division Player of the week after his double-strike secured a tremendous 2-1 win over 3-in-a-row champions Dundalk at Turners Cross.
It was a sold-out Turners Cross as the top two teams in the country fought out a ding-dong battle in the spring sunshine.
Two goals in a fifteen-minute spell mid-way into the first half had Cork in command as the sell-out crowd were enjoying every minute under the sun.
Dundalk showed just why they won 3 league titles in a row as they stormed back. David McMillan made it 2-1 with a quarter of an hour left, but unfortunately for them had Ciaran Kilduff sent off six minutes from the end as Cork held on to claim the points.
Sheppard had a point to prove to manager John Caulfield, as he said afterwards that his performances hadn’t been up to the standards required and he needed to prove he was up to the task. With those two important goals, most Cork City fans would say he most certainly was.
