After two games without a win, UCD won 2-0 at Belfield over Longford Town on Saturday night. The victory put the students top of the table alongside Waterford on ten points.
Defender Jason McClelland opened the scoring before Georgie Kelly doubled their lead in the first quarter of the game.
Manager Collie O’Neill said his side was a little fortunate to come away with all three points saying, “We were slightly fortunate with our win on Saturday. Possession wise we were off our normal standards but the two goals we scored were quality, and we defended very well in the second half when Longford threw the kitchen sink at us.”
We also asked him about young 19 year-old defender, and first goalscorer Jay McClelland.
“Jay McClelland has been a regular for us for the last two years and has started to become more consistent in his performances. He has amazing quick feet, is technically very good and likes to takes defenders on. He’s the kind of player mangers love to have in their side.”
UCD will look to cement their position at the top of the table when they travel to Cobh to take on Ramblers on Saturday Night.
