Premier Division Player of the week – Stephen Dooley (Cork City)

Stephen Dooley of Cork City

Cork City winger Stephen Dooley is our SSE Airtricity League Premier Division Player of the week following his man-of-the-match performance in City’s 3-0 victory over Derry City on Friday night at Turners Cross.
Dooley 25 was in inspired form, terrorising the Derry defence all night. He set up Karl Sheppard early on only for the striker’s header to drift wide.

However, after 35 minutes Dooley left Derry’s Lukas Schubert in his wake as he ran down the left-hand side to cross for Garry Buckley to slot home his 20th goal for City at the near post.

Here is that goal;

Dooley was a constant threat for a Derry side still coming to terms with the death of their hugely influential captain Ryan McBride.

The man from Ballymoney is fast becoming a firm favourite with the Turners Cross faithful, and another huge crowd of over 5,000 people were in attendance to see Cork continue their winning start to the season. It’s now 8 from 8 in the league, plus their win over Dundalk in the President’s Cup.
