“We were rewarded for our good play” says Cobh boss Henderson

Cobh Ramblers manager Stephen Henderson was delighted his side claimed all three points against Wexford  on Friday night.

They fell behind early to an Adam Hanlon effort, but bounced back straight away through James McSweeney. Despite a penalty saved by Wexford’s Corey Chambers, Matthew Whelan secured the points twelve minutes from the end.

Stephen Henderson, “Very happy with the win. We were dominating the game and playing really well yet found ourselves a goal down out of nowhere from a long throw into the box.”

“Once again our young lads reacted brilliantly and unlike Waterford the previous week we were rewarded for our good play.”

“Even missing the penalty did not have a negative effect on the lads which shows a great level of maturity from the team.”

“When we went ahead, we did drop off to much for my liking, and allowed them the opportunity to launch long throws into our box. However we defended really well and saw out the game in a professional manner.”

Looking ahead to Mondays EA Sports Cup tie against Waterford Henderson said, “On Monday we can go and enjoy ourselves against Waterford with no pressure. We are looking forward to the game and a quarter final this early in the season would be nothing more than this group deserve.”
