Wixted happy to take his chance

Adam Wixted celebrates his goal with his Drogheda United team-mates

Drogheda United headed up to Ballybofey on Friday night after being rightly thumped by Limerick the previous week, and came home with all three points after a 2-0 win.

Goals in either half by Adam Wixted and Gavin Brennan gave Pate Mahon’s side their fourth win in ten games. Not too bad considering they were many people’s first choice to go straight back down following promotion last season.

Goalscorer Adam Wixted started only his second game of the season, the first being the opening night victory over Galway United. He was very pleased to come away with the win saying. “I thought we played really well at times throughout the game. Finn harps is a really tough place to go to and especially with the run that we’ve been on it was massive for us to come out of there with 3 points.”

“I missed a great chance inside the box in the first few minutes of the game so that was playing on my mind a little bit, so I was delighted to take my second chance on goal and score. To be honest, more relieved than anything,” said the modest youngster.

Adam was delighted to get his chance to play, “I was also happy to start tonight after been in and out of the team. We’ve a big squad this year so it’s important to take your opportunities when you get the chance, and then try to keep your place in the team.”
