Ronan Murray was delighted to beat local rivals Sligo Rovers in yesterday’s Cup game, as the Tribesmen made it into the EA Sports Cup semi-final, just like they did in 2015 when United reached the final only to lose in a penalty shoot-out to St Patrick’s Athletic.
Murray said, “Great to get a cup run going which gives us confidence and a bit of momentum for the league. Always that bit sweeter to come out on top against the local rivals as well.”
Speaking about his goal he said, “For the goal Alex Byrne played a clever pass which I found myself in the box, so I’ve shifted it out of my feet and had a go and luckily it’s nestled in the far corner.”
“With Ciaran Nugent in goal we always felt we had an advantage, because nudge knows most of the Sligo lads from last season. So we just had to do our job and we knew Ciaran had two or three saves in him.”
On the club’s great results over the weekend Murray said, “Yeah that’s two big results for the club and it has giving us a lift. It’s back to the bread and butter on Friday. We need to be getting points against the teams around us in the league, if we are going to give ourselves a chance of pushing up the table.”
