Two goals in twelve minutes secured another three points for Collie O’Neill’s side as they battle to keep pace with Waterford at the top of the First Division.
Another wonder-strike from Georgie Kelly, followed by a second goal in consecutive matches for Jay McClelland ensured that Wexford stayed winless for the season as the students won 2-0.
We got reaction from UCD manager Collie O’Neill after the game, “Valuable win for us tonight. Prior to Georgie’s goal I’m sure plenty of people would have been looking for their money back, as there was a lack of quality on show, but when the goal arrived it was worth the admission fee alone. Daire (O’Connor) did great work on the wing to get the cross in and Georgie finished it off with a fantastic overhead kick.”
“We changed our shape tonight, and worked hard during the week on attacking the wide areas to get crosses in and it paid off when Daire once again got his cross in and Jay finished off with a glancing header.”
“Our back five did extremely well to cope with all the pressure Wexford exerted onto us to claim our 5th clean sheet of this campaign, it’s also nice to see a different side to us where it’s no longer about just playing pretty football, we’re willing to change our style of play to become more efficient at securing three points.”
