UCD beat Longford Town on Saturday evening 1-0 at the City Calling Stadium to keep pace with League leaders Waterford.
Daire O’Connor score the winning goal inside the opening quarter of an hour with a tidy finish past Paul Skinner in the Longford goal.
Speaking to theleagueofireland.com UCD boss Collie O’Neill was pleased to pick up the three points saying, “With Waterford and Cobh both winning last night it was important for us to get three points to stay in the hunt.”
“It’s been a tough week for the lads as they are all currently in the middle of their exams. We played some really good football in patches and defended well when we had too.”
On Daire’s goal Collie said, “Daire’s finish was top class as he had loads of time to think when he was one v one with skinner, and thankfully he stayed composed to finish in the corner.”
With a big game on the horizon next week O’Neill says they still need to improve, “As good as we were tonight we’ll have to improve on it if we are to get something out of next weeks game against Cobh Ramblers.”
