Wexford goalscorer Croke said “We knew results would come.”

We spoke to Wexford goalscorer Thomas Croke after his goal helped the club to their first league win of the season, in a 1-0 win over Shelbourne at Ferrycarrig Park.

“It’s great to get that first win of the season tonight, especially against a Shels team that have beat us twice already this year,” Croke told theleagueofireland.com

Croke said the team were confident despite not winning prior to Friday’s game saying, “Performances over the past few weeks have improved and we knew ourselves that the results would follow suit.”

He said spirits never dropped despite not winning, “We’ve continued to work hard in training and the atmosphere around the club has been a major factor in keeping our spirits high. It’s always a great club to be involved in, a real community club with the best people involved in running it.”

On his goal Croke said, “The goal came very early in the game. Liam Donnelly did some great work down the right wing beating the full back and I was just in the right place when he crossed it. I’ve had a few blocked this season where I’ve made better contact with the ball but it was nice to see this one hit the corner.”

“We’re just looking to push on from here now and get climbing up the table.”
