Cobh Ramblers won the big battle between themselves and UCD as to who would keep up the pressure on League leaders Waterford.
It took a late goal from 19 year-old striker Matthew Whelan, who’s now scored four goals in seven games this season, to grab all three points.
Whelan spoke to theleagueofireland.com after the game, “Obviously it was nice to get the winning goal, it’s always a good feeling, but hopefully there is a lot more to come.”
On the importance of the game Whelan said, “Well it was a huge game really, especially for the two of us to stay in touch with Waterford. Hendo spoke before the game about us being a great team unit, and I think we showed that last night as we worked incredibly hard all over the pitch.”
“I think our rewards came, but it was a very tough game because the pitch is very big and UCD are a good side who move the ball very well.”
“That was a massive three points for us and hopefully we can carry that form into Waterford next week.”
The young striker was very generous with his time after the game, and made it a night to remember for some younger fans;
