Lyttle praises the supporters despite defeat to Cork

Sligo Rovers boss Gerard Lyttle was disappointed to lose to who he describes as, the best team in the country, but had lots of positives to take from their 2-1 loss to the runaway league leaders.

Kieran Sadlier had Rovers in front from the penalty spot, but second half goals from Achille Campion and a Kevin O’Connor handed Cork the win.

Lyttle spoke to theleagueofireland.com after the game, “Lots of positives yes, but two moments in the game where we had switched off and it’s cost us. We gifted them the goals.”

“Disappointed that we haven’t defended better, especially the corner kick which went straight in.”

“I think when the best team in the country have to change their formation during the game it should be huge compliment to our boys.”

He also had great praise for the bit o’ red supporters saying, “Our fans were excellent tonight, they got right behind us and I would like to thank them for that. It really helps the team when they are like that. If we can stick together as a club, they have a big part to play in helping us get out of the bottom half of the table, especially at home.”

“We move on now and get ready for the Bray game. I will get the opportunity to go watch them play at Drogheda tonight. If we continue to work hard in training we will get a rewards. It’s only a matter of time before we start winning games.”
