Limerick and Bray Wanderers served up an 8-thriller at the Markets Field on Saturday night as the home side triumphed by five goals to three. 20 year-old striker Chiedozie Ogbene scored twice on the night, to make it four league goals for the season. theleagueofireland.com caught up with the Blues marksman after the game.

We asked him what it was like to play in such a dramatic game, “It was both an exciting and difficult game considering where Bray are in the league table, and the quality they have, but we came out knowing our roles and knowing that we had the quality to match them on the night.”

“We experienced a tense second half letting them back into the game, but I knew with the quality we had, and the work rate we showed, something positive would come of it.”

Ogbene’s becoming a very popular player with the Limerick supporters;

Ogbene was thrilled to score, but also spoke about their formation, “I was delighted to score two goals in front of the home fans. Playing a 3-5-2 formation is never easy, and in a game with so many goals, but it just shows the hard work the team put in going forward trying to match our defensive work rate.”

On his goals the young marksman said, “The first goal came from a loose ball, as the came ball into me I drove forward trying to get as close to the goal for a shot. When the ball went through the last defender, I got my chance and I looked up to see where the keeper was, and I drove the ball with power, making sure it was on target.”

“My second goal came from peeling wide and receiving on the front foot. I drove into the box, kept it low and finished it home with my left foot.”

“It was great to score goals knowing that you practice it week and week out and not every day you get the opportunity to show with you have practice for but I was delighted it happened on this night. It gives us a confidence boost going into midseason break preparing for our next game.”

  1. Looks like this young lad will get a call-up for the Nigerian U23 training camp. Shame that the Republic of Ireland’s Football Association has not recognised his potential. Maybe his fault for not having an Irish granny or a Roman Catholic background in Northern Ireland.
