It’s no surprise that theleagueofireland.com SSE Airtricity League Premier Division’s Player of the Week is Cork City striker Seanie Maguire.
The striker, who announced his departure from the club over the weekend, scored a superb hat-trick as City deservedly beat three-in-a-row champions Dundalk on their own patch 3-0, to move 18 points clear in the title race at the halfway point in the season.
Maguire has signed a 3-year deal with Championship side Preston North End, and will link-up with former Dundalk stalwarts Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan, and also fellow-Irishmen Greg Cunningham and Alan Browne.
The 23 year-old was brilliant on Friday night in Oriel Park, in front of the Irish management team of Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane. He opened the scoring by knocking in Karl Sheppard’s Cross in the 19th minute.
In the second half Maguire scored with a header from a Johnny Dunleavey cross, before he pounced on a defensive error from Dane Massey to complete the hat-trick.
