With both teams decimated by suspensions, with 4 players missing each, Shamrock Rovers will be glad to come away from Finn Park with three very precious points.

The win moves Rovers into fourth place in the table, in place of Derry City, while Finn Harps remain in eighth just two points clear of the relegation places.

It wasn’t until the 43rd minute when the deadlock was broken, as sriker Michael O’Connor headed in the winner.

There was some good news for Finn Harps and manager Ollie Horgan, as their teenage striker BJ Banda returned from injury, when he came off the bench to replace Paddy McCourt late on, while new signing Pascal Millien also made his debut for the club.

Goalscorer O’Connor told theleagueofireland.com “It was a great win for the team. We worked our socks off, it’s not an easy place to go. Finn Harps are a tough side, but it’s a massive 3 points. We now move on to next week.”

“It’s nice to get a goal. Simon Madden got a bit of space and whipped it in, and I was in the right place and headed it across the keeper. It was a great team performance.”
