Wexford have pulled off something of a major coup with the loan signing of Shamrock Rovers striker Aaron Dobbs until the end of the season.
Dobbs scored a hat-trick for the Rovers U-19’s only last weekend in a 5-0 win over Cobh Ramblers.
The 18 year old forward is Damian Locke’s sixth signing of the summer following the capture of Aaron O’Connor, Dean Kelly, Mikey Byrne, AJ Lehane and Conor Dunne.
The former Moyne Rangers man joined Shamrock Rovers in 2015, playing initially with their under 17 squad, and then their under 19 squad. He made his senior debut for the club in the 2016 Leinster Senior Cup Final against St. Patrick’s Athletic, and got his first senior goal against Sligo Rovers in August of 2016. He’d only been on the pitch 8 minutes when he scored.
In 2017, Aaron has so far been an unused substitute for the senior team on a number of occasions, but is the joint second-top goal scorer in the Under-19 Southern Elite Division having scored 4 goals.
After putting pen to paper, Aaron was delighted to complete the formalities. “I’m delighted to be here”, he told the Wexford FC media team. “I’ve trained with the lads a few times already, and now that everything is completed I’m looking forward to getting out there on the pitch, hopefully scoring a few goals, and helping to move us up the table”.
Manager Damian Locke was equally delighted after securing his man. “I’m delighted to have Aaron here. Everyone knows what a talent he is, and I’m positive he’ll be able to hit the ground running. We already have a some very good, young, hungry players here, and Aaron will add to that”.
Dobbs will go straight in to the squad for next Friday’s visit to First Division leaders Waterford FC.
