BUMBLEance announced as Charity Partner for 2019

We are delighted to announce that theleagueofireland.com along with our social media channels on Twitter (@league_ireland) Instagram and Facebook, will be linking up with BUMBLEance as our charity partner for the 2019 season.

Launched by The Saoirse Foundation in 2013, BUMBLEance, The Children’s National Ambulance Service, is the world’s first state-of-the-art ambulance service specifically designed and tailored exclusively for children, BUMBLEance was the brainchild of Mary and Tony Heffernan, who experienced the struggle of caring for sick children when their own critically ill children, Saoirse and Liam, spent so much time on the road going to and from hospital appointments.

BUMBLEance provides safe and comfortable transportation for Ireland’s youngest patients who require transportation between their home and children’s hospitals, hospices, national paediatric treatment centres, and respite centres nationwide.

The comfort and safety of the children is BUMBLEances #1 priority. Each BUMBLEance vehicle has advanced mobile internet and Wi-Fi and facilitates the real-time transfer of data from on-board medical equipment to remote servers. BUMBLEance also features top-of-the range, child friendly, entertainment systems, designed to distract, comfort and entertain Ireland youngest patients as they travel to and from hospital.

BUMBLEance also provides an invaluable service through its Angel Trips. An Angel Trip is designed for a terminally ill child who is making his or her final journey on earth before he or she grows their Angel Wings.

BUMBLEance ensures that parents can make this final journey together with their loved one in a safe, compassionate, sensitive and caring environment. Before the Angel Trip service, parents would often have to drive themselves home with their loved one or to take a taxi, this is not a viable option for many families during such a devastating and heart wrenching journey.

The newest addition to the BUMBLEance service is BUMBLEette. This free door-to-door/bed-to-bed service is for critically and seriously ill young patients who do not require full ambulance support with a paramedic on board, but who do require transportation to and from paediatric hospitals, respite care centres and hospices nationwide. BUMBLEette will also serve as a Children’s Chemo Cab, bringing children and their accompanying parent or carer to and from chemotherapy treatment; and will also be part of the Angel Trips service that takes terminally ill children home.

Tony Heffernan, Founder and CEO of The Saoirse Foundation said, “We are thrilled to be working with the guys at theleagueofireland.com – we know that this will be a fantastic partnership – and they will help us spread the word about the work that we do.”

Tony and his wife Mary were exposed to the full implications of what it is like to deal with living with rare genetic conditions when both their children, Saoirse (pictured above) and Liam, were diagnosed with the fatal condition, Batten Disease. Saoirse unfortunately passed away in January 2011, and Liam lost his battle with Batten Disease in May 2014.

Tony continued, “Speaking from our own personal experience, we saw first-hand the stress that travelling from rural Ireland to treatment centres caused our little girl Saoirse. BUMBLEance ensures the most safe, comfortable and entertaining journey possible for a critically ill child in need of ambulance transportation to and from any treatment centre in Ireland.”

Founder of theleagueofireland.com Gerard Mulreaney said, “We are absolutely thrilled to have BUMBLEance on board as our first ever Charity Partner. The work that they do for critically ill children is amazing and we’re delighted to link up with them to help raise awareness, and hopefully some funds throughout the year.”

“Many of the leagues fans, coaches and even players have young children. Should they ever need to avail of their services they can rest assured that they will be well catered for by the BUMBLEance team.”

“We’d like to thank Tony and all involved with BUMBLEance, for joining us this season and we hope it’s a long and successful partnership.”
