Waterford have signed Finnish Youth International goalkeeper Hugo Keto on a loan deal until the summer from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.
The 21-year-old shot-stopper has linked up with Alan Reynolds side ahead of the new season to fight it out with Matthew Connor for the Number 1 Jersey.
He joined the Premier League side last summer following four years at Arsenal, having joined them from Finnish side HJK Helsinki in 2014.
Keto spoke to WaterfordFC.ie after signing on the dotted line, “I’m really happy to sign. It was a good opportunity to get some game time so it’s a good move. I want to get some mens football into me too so it makes sense to come here.”
“I trained this morning in my first session and it was really good. I got to know the lads a bit and enjoyed it, so I’m looking forward to get going.”
Blues boss Alan Reynolds is happy to have another quality keeper in his squad, “We’re delighted to get Hugo into the team. He trained with us this morning and didn’t look out of place.”
“It’s great to bring in another quality keeper and there’ll be great competition for the number one jersey now. Hugo has got lots of experience from the development leagues in English with Arsenal and Brighton so we’re really happy to get it sorted.”
Waterford kick-off their 2019 league campaign on Friday night with a game against Shamrock Rovers at the RSC.
