Big clash between Derry and Dundalk the highlight in the draw for the FAI Cup second round

The draw for the second round of the Extra.ie FAI Cup was made on Monday evening, and streamed live on the FAI’s Facebook page.

The highlight for many was the pairing of last season’s cup winners, EA Sports Cup winners Derry City and the FAI Cup holders Dundalk in the Ryan McBride Stadium.

Bohemians, who came from 2-0 with five minutes to play against Shelbourne to win 3-2, have been given a home tie against the winners of the midlands ‘El Clasico’ between Longford Town and Athlone Town.

First Division strugglers Galway United Will face Premier Division strugglers Cork City, while Stephen Bradley’s Shamrock Rovers will look to gain revenge on last season’s cup conquerers Drogheda United.

There will be a couple of Dublin Derbies, as the students of UCD host St Patrick’s Athletic, while at least one non-league side will make the last 8 as Crumlin United take on Lucan United.

Donegal’s Glengad United have been handed a home tie against Premier Division side Waterford. The Inishowen men are the first ever Donegal junior team to make the last 16 of the FAI Cup.

In the final tie, Liam Buckley‘s Sligo Rovers side, who beat Glebe North 8-0, will host Tommy Barrett’s Limerick at the Showgrounds.
